Portage is a suburb of Kalamazoo. Major employers here include Stryker, and Pfizer. We are exactly halfway between Detroit and Chicago, a 2 hour drive to either. There are many lakes in the area, and only a 50 minute drive to Lake Michigan. If you like water sports, golf, skiing, this is a great place. We have Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College, and Kalamazoo Community College among the local colleges. There are many cultural events including Gilmore Music Festival, monthly art hops, and events at WMU. Grand Rapids is an hour away with many additional events. Every weekend there is some type of festival in downtown Kalamazoo. Many of us head to the Lake Michigan beach at South Haven, Saugatuck, or St Joe. If you choose to live in Kalamazoo, your kids would qualify for the Kalamazoo Promise, giving free college tuition if they attend K through 12th grade. Being a Portage fan, the local high schools here include international baccalaureate classes, and are excellent schools. My 3 children attended Portage Public Schools and feel that they received a very good, well rounded education that adequately prepared them for college.
Regarding the Chiropractic practice, my patients are analyzed using Activator Technique protocols, and 95% receive instrument adjusting on an activator table. I have a Hill Airflex table with drop pieces, and flexion for those who prefer manual adjustments. My practice opened in 1987 in Portage. I have one full time office manager, and 2 part time front desk staff. My hours are M,W,Th, from 8-12 and 2-6, and Tues, Fri from 8 to 11. Roughly the practice is one third insurance, one third Medicare, and one third cash. I do not have a Massage Therapist, but there is an available room to accommodate a Massage Therapist. My office is located on a busy street near one of local high schools.
